Club History

Castletown Rifle Club formed in 1923 and was originally located in the area that is now the car park to the George Hotel. Shooting was suspended during the Second World War, after recommencing, the club enjoyed success in the Isle of Man Rifle Association Winter League throughout the 1950s.

The club remained behind the George Hotel until the late 70s when due to refurbishment the buildings had to be vacated. With thanks to the Club Patron, Mr B.A. Holt, and local businesses, money was raised and the current range was built in 1979. At the time the range had four firing points at 15 yards, in 1985 an extension was built in memory of our Club Patron, providing two more firing points at 25 yards which can also be used as 15 yard firing points if necessary. We can also accommodate air pistols/rifles.

Since 1979 we have won the Isle of Man Rifle Association Winter League on many occasions and have had success in the Ulster Counties League and in IOMRA & NSRA competitions. We have had two club members who have become the Island Individual Champion on multiple occasions, Trevor Taubman & Stewart Watterson
